I am a music artist before I am anything else… so much so that I often think of my life as a compilation of songs — not necessarily songs others have written and released, but original songs created in real time. As a songwriter, I’ll frequent a small collection of apps I use to keep track of and make progress on different songs and ideas, but there’s hardly enough time to bring every concept through the full process of production.
Music, in my opinion, is the most beautiful communication tool ever intercepted by humans. It speaks to us in ways that talk, literature, smell, vision and touch simply cannot. And I think it;s incredible how one song can convey a myriad of emotions and sometimes communicate a number of messages to the listening audience.
In the last couple of weeks I’ve been curating some new playlists for different work projects, and I had this idea of creating my own personal playlists as a sort of record-keeping effort to reflect on my mindset and feelings during any given week, month or season. Of course, I listen to a lot of music, so I took a moment to figure out how I wanted to make sense of this and I came to the following conclusion… whittle it down to the top three.
